Nurse Practitioner to Dr. Karl Balch

Melanie is a board-certified nurse practitioner with a strong foundation in emergency and trauma care. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) from the University of Utah and went on to complete her Master of Science in nursing (MSN) at California State University, Bakersfield, where she graduated with academic honors and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Society.

A Bakersfield native, Melanie brings over six years of hands-on clinical experience as a trauma-certified registered nurse. She has worked in high-acuity settings at Kern Medical and Dignity Health Emergency Departments. These experiences have shaped her deep commitment to patient-centered care, focusing on improving health outcomes through compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based practice.

In her role as a nurse practitioner at SCOI, she works closely with Dr. Balch to provide comprehensive orthopedic care: evaluating patients, creating individualized treatment plans, performing injections, and helping guide patients through their surgical journey, from preparation to recovery.

Melanie is available to see patients in our Bakersfield-Bahamas office.
