Fellowship-trained sports medicine and arthroscopy surgeon Dr. Theodore Shybut has recently coauthored a new study. The study found that delaying surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can increase the risk of damage to the knee joint.
The study showed that patients who waited more than 40 days for ACL surgery were more likely to have additional injuries. This is because the longer the delay, the more time there is for the knee joint to become unstable and damaged.
The study’s findings emphasize the importance of seeking prompt medical attention if you suspect an ACL injury. Early treatment can help reduce the risk of long-term complications and improve recovery.
