Southern California Orthopedic Institute is the preferred expert for diagnosing and treating bone, joint, and muscle injuries and conditions as well as musculoskeletal and spinal disorders in adults and children.

History

The practice was established on August 29, 1976, on the Sherman Oaks Hospital campus in Sherman Oaks, California. In 1981, the practice relocated to Van Nuys, California, adjacent to the Valley Presbyterian Hospital. SCOI has previously used the names “Southern California Orthopedic Institute Medical Group”; “Southern California Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Group”; and “Southern California Orthopedic Sports Medical Group.”

Today, SCOI offers the highest quality comprehensive approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and directed rehabilitation of patients with orthopedic problems.

Innovation, Compassion, and Excellence in Orthopedics

The physicians of SCOI are Board-certified/eligible, nationally and internationally renowned, fellowship-trained experts, each in the specialized fields of orthopedic surgery, physical medicine/ rehabilitation, and primary care sports medicine.  Currently, 42 FTE physicians provide orthopedic, pain management and/or physical medicine and rehabilitation services at the SCOI facilities.

Physicians at SCOI have been instrumental in the development of new advancements which have led the way in orthopedic medicine and surgery.  SCOI physicians have pioneered new operative techniques, surgical instrumentation, braces and drapes, and lecture and teach internationally.
